Programme goal:

Training managers and specialists in the principles of building effective teams through diagnosing and overcoming the «five dysfunctions». The programme aims to make teamwork stop being a slogan and become a real source of the company's competitive advantage.

The programme focuses on:

  • Developing the skills of diagnosing team problems and finding tools to eliminate them
  • Forming a team culture based on trust, open discussion and a focus on results
  • Increasing the effectiveness of management and project teams
  • Using Lencioni's tools and applied cases to strengthen interaction within units and between functions

Objectives:

  • Examine the «Five Dysfunctions of a Team» model (Lencioni) and its practical application
  • Master methods of diagnosing the state of a team (questionnaires, scales, mental traps)
  • Examine the role of the leader and team members in overcoming each of the dysfunctions
  • Master tools for building trust, constructive conflict, commitment and accountability
  • Study techniques for increasing the team's focus on collective results
  • Practise the skills on practical cases
  • Consolidate the material in the business game «Death by Meeting» (based on Lencioni's book) and practical group assignments

Day 1

Introduction

Explaining the terms «team effectiveness» and «the five dysfunctions of a team».

✓ Case: «Why are some teams successful and others not?»

Dysfunction No. 1: Absence of trust.

✓ Practice: an openness exercise («personal histories»).

✓ Case: analysis of examples of successful teams that have built trust.

Dysfunction No. 2: Fear of conflict.

✓ Business game: modelling a conflict and finding solutions.

✓ Discussion: participants' personal experience — when conflict helped to find a better solution.

Day 2

Dysfunction No. 3: Lack of commitment.

✓ Practical work: developing «commitment rules» for your own team.

✓ Case: a project that failed because of a lack of commitment.

Dysfunction No. 4: Avoidance of accountability.

✓ Practice: the «feedback round» exercise.

✓ Case: examples of companies where team accountability improved results.

Dysfunction No. 5: Inattention to results.

✓ Practical work: defining team-wide KPIs.

✓ Case: a business game on building team KPIs.

Integrating Lencioni's model into the company's practice.

✓ Business game: building a meeting system to increase team effectiveness.
