General information about the ITIL v4 library

ITIL version 4 provides organisations with comprehensive guidance for managing IT services in the modern digital world and economy. ITIL 4 is based on established IT Service Management (ITSM) practices, covers new models such as the creation of value streams (Service Value System), and takes into account the use of the existing global approaches DevOps, Agile and Lean.

ITIL 4 describes an integrated model used for creating, delivering and continually improving products and services, emphasising a systems approach and the co-creation of value for the customer organisation and the service provider. ITIL 4 ensures flexible adaptation to the constantly changing internal and external conditions of the organisation's work through the continual improvement of IT services and their component elements under digital transformation (digitalisation).

Training goals:

  • Acquiring the basic knowledge and skills needed to understand the principles of effectively organising the work of an IT company / IT units

Unlike the classic (authorised) course «ITIL v4 Foundation», whose programme emphasises mastering the main methods of running multifactor projects to implement the process approach and the continual improvement methods that appeared in ITIL v4, this course examines the issues of effectively organising the processes of managing an IT company (IT unit), with an emphasis on the key points of implementing processes and the details of their interrelationships.

This course does not replace the authorised course «ITIL v4 Foundation» but complements it with a full overview of the processes. Module 1 of this training, «Introduction to IT Service Management», is identical to the corresponding module of the authorised course. The remaining modules contain information of a different nature that does not overlap with the authorised course.

The aim of the course is not to acquire practical skills in building processes. That aim is achieved in subsequent, practice-oriented trainings.

After attending the training you will know:

  • — how the guiding principles of ITIL v4 can help an IT organisation increase efficiency and return on investment
  • — the levels of interaction with the client company, ensuring openness and transparency, automation, and the use of a systems approach in delivering services or products
  • — how to justify investment in developing IT assets in general and IT processes in particular
  • — the most significant interrelationships between processes
  • — an overview of the most significant and hardest-to-understand elements of the approach

After attending the course you will be able to:

  • — explain (justify) the need for continual improvement of the processes of managing an IT organisation using the methods described in the «IT Infrastructure Library»
  • — use the existing IT Service Management terminology correctly and competently
  • — describe the purpose, specifics of application and key performance indicators of the main management processes (practices) described in the «IT Infrastructure Library»

Target audience (who the course is for)

This course is recommended for employees involved in programmes and projects aimed at improving IT processes (IT activities): heads of IT companies, IT directors, IT managers, senior and middle IT managers.

For the sake of general awareness, aligning understanding and, consequently, reducing staff resistance to organisational change, the course «ITIL v4 Foundation» may also be recommended to IT specialists (i.e. non-managerial IT staff).

Prerequisites

No special knowledge or skills are required for effective learning on this course. Nevertheless, work experience in the IT unit of a company of any profile, or in an IT company, is welcome.
